When work stress shows up at home

For many healthcare professionals, stress shows up most clearly at home.

After a demanding day, patience is gone. Small things trigger strong reactions. You may feel more irritable, quicker to snap or shut down, especially with the people you care about most.

You might recognize this pattern:

  • Holding it together at work, then falling apart at home
  • Feeling guilty about how you respond to your partner or children
  • Having little emotional bandwidth left after your shift
  • Not liking who you are at home anymore

This is not a lack of professionalism or resilience.
It is what happens when a nervous system stays in overdrive for too long.

Doctors on the Mat addresses this at the level where lasting change becomes possible.

Our Mission

To support healthcare professionals in regulating their nervous system, so chronic stress no longer dictates how they work, rest, or show up at home.

Doctors on the Mat focuses on regulating your nervous system through:

The ABCDE Approach

Sustainable recovery does not come from doing more.
It comes from applying the right steps, in the right order. Doctors on the Mat follows a simple, structured approach that makes nervous system regulation realistic within a medical workday.

A – Awareness of stress signals.
B – Breath to downshift the nervous system.
C – Centering through movement and focus.
D – Down-regulation to support recovery and sleep.
E – Embedding short practices into real workdays

EVIDENCE-INFORMED FOUNDATION

The practices used in Doctors on the Mat are grounded in both yogic tradition and modern science.

Research shows that specific breathing patterns and mindful movement influence autonomic balance, support heart rate variability, reduce stress signaling, and improve sleep and emotional regulation.

Theory is translated into practical tools that can be applied immediately in daily life.
